Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It increases serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons.
