Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. It suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells.
