Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and atypical bacteria. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It is used for respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.
